I look at it against the sunlight, just enough to give that little bit of extra taste, then swirl it around in my mouth and close my eyes with an mmmmm. No, I’m not gulping back some Grange Hermitage—rather, enjoying the delight of what is a world championship winning gelato, in Italy. There’s something about letting flavour coat itself on your tongue like a velvet carpet, to close one’s eyes and pick out the bursts and subtle undertones of a finely made gelato. If the term ice-cream is like saying ‘wine’, then gelato is a variety, like shiraz. With its distinct ingredients, preparation and storage methods, there are main differences to ice cream such as: High quality gelato is made daily, with fresh and quality ingredients. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BUYING ORGANIC FOOD?

There has been a lot of controversy lately regarding the numerous unnatural ingredients and resources used in the production of our food. Many people are skeptical and even scared when they hear that their meal has any association with pesticides, antibiotics, and growth hormones. As a consequence, many people have turned to organic food. Organics are in general better for you because they are produced without the use of most conventional pesticides, such as: synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge fertilizers, bioengineering, and radiation. Furthermore, organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics and growth hormones. These days (every day) we hear so much about our food being grown and raised in modified ways. More and more of us are searching for labels to help us make more health-conscious choices. We find labels that say things like "free range", "organically grown", "antibiotic and hormone free", or non-GMO". These phrases were mostly unheard of 10 years ago. So, what do these terms have to do with "organic food"? "Organic food" and "health food" are not interchangeable. Organic is very different. It must meet specific production standards which vary from what has become the normal process over the last thirty or so years. It's not so much that the foods themselves are bad - it's the modern technological preparation, processing and alteration that gets us into trouble. However , it was another 12 years (2002) before the U.S. Department of Agriculture produced the USDA Organic Seal to place on all foods that are at least 95% organic. Organic vegetables, fruits, grains and other crops must be grown ... [more..]
